The Photography Ethics Centre, in partnership with the Ethical Journalism Network, is hosting an online panel on Thursday, 2nd December 2021 at 7 pm GMT. This online panel event will explore the photographic representation of Afghanistan, and the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, over the last twenty years.
With the recent withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan and the subsequent Taliban takeover, images of Afghanistan have again proliferated in the media. This rise in media attention presents an opportunity for reflection about how Afghanistan has been portrayed since the start of the so-called War on Terror. It also raises ethical questions about how photographers represent Afghanistan today.
We will hear from guest speakers including Kiana Hayeri, Alison Baskerville, Tahmina Saleem and Azeta Hatef.
Ticketing for this event is on a donations basis. A donation of any amount is welcome. However, if you want to attend but are unable to make a donation, please email us. All donations received will be split between the panelists and a charity supporting Afghan female journalists.
