Rizwana (aka Rizu) Hamid is the director of the Centre for Media Monitoring which promotes accurate, fair and responsible reporting of Muslims & Islam and works for representation and diversity in the media. Rizwana is responsible for overseeing CfMM’s work and engaging with key stakeholders including the media, regulators, parliamentarians, academics, and other media campaigners.

Prior to heading up CfMM, Rizwana worked as a television producer/director for over 30 years for the BBC (News, Current Affairs, Religious, Documentary, World Service & Multicultural Programming) as well as for Channel 4 and other international broadcasters. Her films have won awards – “Journey Into Darkness” (BBC Panorama), been used as evidence in internal inquiries – “Inside Injustice” (Channel 4), and led to changes in policy – “Skeleton’s in the Cupboard” (BBC Heart of the Matter). Rizwana sits on various advisory boards and also devises and delivers media skills training and unconscious bias training for individuals and organisations in the UK, Europe, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
