A letter from EJN Director Hannah Storm

After two great years at the Ethical Journalism Network, during which we have achieved so much and come through a difficult period, I have decided to step down from my role as director at the end of April.

I have made the decision to do so in order to focus on my consultancy, training, writing and speaking, including in the field of media safety and mental health, for the next period of my career.

I know that the EJN is in a strong position and will go on to do important work in the field of journalism ethics and I will always support its aims.

It’s been a real privilege to collaborate with our EJN core team, trustees and committee, as well as those who have supported our charity as funders and partners.

I am also thankful to our EJN Chair, Dorothy Byrne, for the following kind words:

‘I am very grateful indeed for everything Hannah has done for us. She has taken the charity in important new directions; her knowledge and expertise in gender issues and campaigning about mental health in particular have been of great value in advancing our work in ethical coverage.

Hannah has also led significant new work by the EJN in the examination of structural racism. Through the Covid-19 crisis, she has ensured that the organisation’s work has continued to make impact and leaves the Ethical Journalism Network well poised to succeed further in our mission to build trust in journalism.’

The process to recruit a new director for the EJN will begin shortly.
