Norwegian journalists train Kenyan colleagues on right information laws
Kenyan journalists attend a training session from Norwegian counterparts about transparency and right to information laws. (14 September 2016, Nairobi)
Around 25 Kenyan journalists took part in two days of training led by Norwegian journalists Tarjei Leer-Salvesen and Vegard Venli who shared their experiences of using public records and transparency laws as part of their investigative journalists.
The training, which took place at in Nairobi from 14-15 September came just weeks before the Kenyan president signed new access to information law – the 21st in Africa.
The workshop was organised in collaboration between Article 19 Eastern Africa, the Norwegian Press Association and the Norwegian Institute of Journalism as part of a pilot project, which aims to follow up the new Norwegian strategy on freedom of expression and the new sustainability goals of the United Nations, financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The first workshop was held in Tunisia in May.
A third training is planned for Nepal in November.
