On May 3, Freedom House and World Press Freedom Committee announced that they combined their operations.  The World Press Freedom Committee has been an important partner of Freedom House for many years, dating back to 1976 when the two organizations came together to defeat a controversial proposal under debate within UNESCO to create a New World Information and Communication Order.  The combined organizations will continue to promote global press freedom, addressing issues such as assassinations and other physical threats to journalists, censorship, criminal defamation laws and defamation of religion, among other things.

Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization that supports democratic change, monitors the status of freedom around the world, and advocates for democracy and human rights.
