JOURNALISM NOW: LIVE HUMAN TRAFFICKING ETHICS DISCUSSION
Watch the EJN's Director, Aidan White, talk about how journalists should approach reporting on human trafficking today at 12pm GMT on the Thomson Foundation's Facebook page.
THE TALK IS TECH, BUT IN JOURNALISM IT'S THE HUMAN TOUCH THAT COUNTS
"Some of us are confident that, for the foreseeable future at least, algorithms cannot be trusted to understand and replace the nuanced ethical judgement of journalists and editors."
The EJN's Aidan White began the year by predicting that the talk inside media will focus on algorithms, bots, AI and mobile journalism in 2018 but argues that we should not forget about the human touch.
INTERNET SOCIETY: THE FUTURE OF JOURNALISM IN THE DIGITAL AGE
"Media watchdogs, increasingly criticized, threatened and attacked by corporate interests and global governments, are also among the prominent victims of falling public trust in the wake of the proliferation of so-called ‘fake’ news."
- Constance Bommelaer de Leusse writes for the EJN's Inside Ethics Blog about the Internet Society's 2017 Global Internet Report.

TRUST IN MEDIA
UNESCO promotes the use of media ethical audits in Montenegro and in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
"In today’s networked environment, when anyone can broadcast live or post their thoughts to a social network, it would seem that censorship ought to be impossible. This should be the golden age of free speech. And sure, it is a golden age of free speech—if you can believe your lying eyes. Is that footage you’re watching real? Was it really filmed where and when it says it was? Is it being shared by alt-right trolls or a swarm of Russian bots? Was it maybe even generated with the help of artificial intelligence?"
On the second evening of the 2017 Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism conference in Jordan the Ethical Journalism Network hosted a screening of “Sea of Pictures” followed by a debate about the issues raised in the film. The debate was chaired by EJN trustee Zahera Harb, with contributions from EJN Adviser Magda Abu Fadil and Hunadah Al Hariri from the Syrian Centre of Media and Freedom of Expression.
