Turning the page of hate in Africa: Final statement from Tanzania workshop

The participants from East African meeting at the Turning the Page of Hate conference, held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on May 12-13th 2015, declare their support for the campaign against hate speech and urge journalism and media leaders in Africa to work together in a renewed effort to strengthen quality journalism to be practised in safe conditions across the continent.

In Egypt, editor accused of publishing false news

“In the event that journalists or news outlets make a mistake, there should be plenty of means of redress that do not involve throwing someone in prison,” said Sherif Mansour, CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator. “Furthermore, criminal accusations against a journalist are unlikely to solve any genuine security problems facing Egyptian authorities.” (via The Committee to Protect Journalists)

The Master of Science in Communication Studies: Journalism and Media in Europe takes a critical and interdisciplinary look at the role of journalism and media in European societies. The Master looks at journalism and media from an economic, political-ideological and policy perspective. It pays attention to the impact of recent economic, political and technological developments on journalism and media. The Master zooms in on media and journalism in a European context, looking comparatively at journalism across Europe and at journalism in the context of European integration. It makes optimal use of Brussels with its range of European and international institutions and the many media, journalism and communication professionals working in and around those institutions.

Call for applications for positions of fact-checkers

Panos South Asia (PSA) believes in the need to strengthen accountability in politics and journalism in Nepal and across South Asia as an effective way to consolidate democracy.
